PROBABLY WILL WIN
AVATAR (Christopher Boyes, Gary Summers, Andy Nelson, and Tony Johnson) - To be honest it has taken me a long time working on movies to actually know what the difference between this and the Sound Editing category is. I feel like there should be an all encompassing, or at least a separate, Sound Designer category (for that matter a Production Designer one, and also Casting, but those are just more reasons why the Academy of Motion picture, just like the Two Party system, needs to be changed). To be honest this one is a technical award and usually the Oscars do get it right because it is one of the few that are left up to taste, While there is some creativity in play here, mostly this is some really talented people putting their skills on display. And "Avatar" was the most amazing technical extravaganza ever made. It plays more like a presentation for the future of the blockbuster than an actual film, and the sound mixing is no exception. Some voters may check off "The Hurt Locker" because of its prowess, but in the end "Avatar" is going to run away with it.
SHOULD WIN
